Kirby Butler Obituary

Kirby Ivern Butler, 73, of Tiger Georgia went to his heavenly home on November 11, 2023 with his loving family at his side.

Kirby was born in Lumberton, North Carolina the son of the late Duncan Ivern Butler and the late Lucille Nunnery Butler. After high school Kirby went to work in public safety and worked as paramedic and was an instructor. During his career he worked in Barrow, Jackson, White, Counties, and Blue Ridge EMS. He also worked for Hall County Fire, He retired from DeKalb County EMS in 2004, and then worked for Rabun County EMS. He was an instructor at Lanier Tech School as well.

Kirby was a loving husband who loved and doted on his wife Sue. Kirby never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to people. He went every day with his wife to the Rabun County Senior Center where he enjoyed the comradery of all the people there, and the ladies on staff spoiled him just a little.  

Kirby was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church for many years. He taught AWANA, was a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the men’s Breakfast prayer group.      

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Butler; daughter-in-law, Tracy Maloney and a grandson, James York.

Kirby is survived by his loving wife, Susan Warren Butler; three daughters, Jennifer Butler, Jessica Butler (Stephen), Tammy Jones (Mark); two sons, Tommy Maloney (Kippi), Todd Maloney; sister, Cathy Cody (Jerry);  fourteen Grandchildren, Lanie Prather, Mikayla Mathis, Haley Smith, Stephen Mauck, Devon Mauck, Delilah Mauck, Joseph Mauck, Bailey Maloney, Riley Maloney, Ashley Griffin (Will), Jordan Pollard (Dwight), Ezra Jones, Thomas Maloney, Ashton Maloney; five great-grandchildren, Reid, Emma, Adler, Avery, Clara.

The family will receive friends at Liberty Baptist Church on Tuesday November 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Derrick Moody, Rev. Will Griffin and Rev. Scott Cates officiating.
