Jan Heath Obituary

Mrs. Jan Queen Heath, 72, of Ellaville, GA, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2022, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, July 9, 2022, in the chapel of Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville with Rev. David Chapman officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00AM.

Jan was born February 19, 1950, in Clayton, GA, to Lamon Tyra and Juanita Oliver Queen. She was proud to have been the daughter of the Sheriff of Rabun County, GA, and enjoyed reminiscing about living in the jail as a child. Jan never forgot anything. Before there was the internet, if the family was stumped on a question, they called Jan. She kept track of everyone’s birthdays and never failed to send out the appropriate birthday wishes each day.  Jan enjoyed her puzzle books and her family had to search far and wide for the ones she didn’t already have. She loved to read and had accumulated quite the collection of books – a trait inherited from her mother. Jan was always punctual and you could set your watch by her. She was affectionately known as “Janmama” and took on the role of grandmother seamlessly. Jan had tons of stories to share, especially about her granddaughter, Preston. In her younger years, she worked for Cullip and then went on to work alongside her husband Herman toting and escorting mobile homes. She was the youngest of eight children and one of the family “Generals,” a term given to each of the five Queen sisters. Jan loved to cook and bake and always brought treats to family gatherings. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman T. Heath, by her son, Thomas Henry Heath, by three brothers, Gene Oliver, Jack Queen, and Ty Queen, and by two sisters, Ann Queen Smith, and Martha Jo Queen.

Jan loved family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving. She always brought the dressing and the green beans. In honor of this, friends and family are invited to come eat a family meal, Thanksgiving style, at 2:00PM at the American Legion in Ellaville after the service. If you are planning on coming to the shin-dig, please bring your favorite Thanksgiving dish.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Bill Jackson of Ellaville, GA; by a granddaughter, Preston Jackson of Ellaville, GA; a great-granddaughter on the way; by three sisters, Nancy Queen Young of Buena Vista, GA, Cheryl Queen Swan and husband Dick of Wrens, GA, and Merrie Queen of Tallulah Falls, GA; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Neill of Lake Milton, OH and Diane Heath of Ellaville, GA; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends also survive.
