Evelyne Harwell Sheats

Evelyne Harwell Sheats, 92, died peacefully at her home. Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard were playing softly in the background. Evelyne was born in Greenville, AL on December 1, 1928. Her family moved to Atlanta in 1940. She is survived by her daughter Stephanie, and son-in-law David Dyer of Clayton, also her brother-in-law John Skelton of Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband, T. LaMar Sheats and parents John R and Evelyn R Harwell, and her brother Johnny. At the time of her death she was surrounded by Stephanie and David as well as Rebecca Clark who was Evelyne’s constant companion and dear friend.

In 1958 they purchased a little brown cabin on Lake Burton. Clayton and the lake quickly cast a spell on the family and they spent as much time at the lake as possible. After LaMar’s passing she moved full time to the lake.

Evelyne and LaMar were very active in civic organizations in Atlanta. They chaired the Arthritis Ball, and the Piedmont Ball. She is a former President of the Women’s Auxiliary at Piedmont Hospital.

She became very active in civic organizations here. She was so happy to be able to help FAITH, St. James Episcopal Church, Boggs Mountain Animal Shelter, and the Rabun Gap School. She wore bright pink lipstick and loved to kiss everyone and leave her lip print. That lipstick was her claim to fame.

We were so fortunate to have many people helping us during her illness. Caroline Wallis, her second daughter, was always on call and willing to help. Her caregivers, Erika, Kim Bree and Beth were wonderful and kind. The nurses and staff at Amedisys were perfect in every way.

Because of the current health issues in our country the family will hold a private scattering of her ashes. Please allow them time to grieve in private.
