Albert Asbury Darnell

Albert Asbury Darnell, age 91, of Lakemont, passed away January 23, 2023 at his residence.  Albert was born in Rabun County the son, of the late Joe Darnell and the late Mary Emma Chapman. He is also preceded in death by his wife Pat Darnell, son, Lang Darnell; Daughter, Louise Darnell; Brother, Douglas Darnell, and two Sisters, JoAnn Darnell and Evelyn Darnell.

He is survived by three daughters, Leslie Darnell of Lakemont, GA, Landie Watts (Buck) of Habersham, GA, Lorraine Darnell Smith (Alan) of Clayton, GA; a son, Lex (Laura Welch Darnell) of Clayton, GA; twelve grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Albert enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 with an honorable discharge in 1954. Soon after he married Pat Patterson well known here in Rabun County as Pat Darnell six children later they found their way back to Rabun County in 1972. Albert and his wife opened an antique shop and also the first Mexican restaurant in Rabun County. Years later he moved to North Carolina and opened a produce stand that he thoroughly enjoyed. He always enjoyed visiting his cousin, nieces and nephews talking about the good old days. He could not get enough of that! Old western movies and country music were his favorite pastimes.

The family would like to thank Punkin Welch Darnell and Summer Darnell for all their endless love and support helping to take care of Albert.

The family will be having a Celebration of Life in the Spring at Darnell Farms the exact time has not been  determined at this time, the family will let everyone know and hopes to see everyone there.
